Occasionally on Ham Radio Science we write articles or reviews on commercial products. These reviews or articles are based solely on our opinion. We are not too interested in generating a bunch of numbers about the hardware we review. There are other sites out there that do that job very well. We also believe that “numbers” do not always tell the whole story. For example the $20 RTL2832U dongles have pretty poor numbers but offers a huge fun factor for the money. What we  do look for is does the product do what it is supposed to do, how well does it basically work, and how much value does it offer for the price. So we prefer to use a more “down to earth” approach to our product articles or reviews from a “users” perspective. The interest in SDR radio has grown tremendously over the past year and a lot of new products are beginning to appear. Over the next year we are probably going to see some new offerings, some great and some not so much. Hopefully, we will get a chance to take a look at some of these new products over the next year and let our readers know what we think. We do purchase some of our review products, but due to budget restrictions we also occasionally contact vendors to see if they are willing to offer us a “loaner” for review. Not only does this give us a chance to go over the product, but also to deal with customer service. We feel that “good” customer service is a huge factor in deciding to purchase a given product. Some vendors we contact are very eager to have us take a look at their products and some not so much. Some vendors simply never reply. We have found that some vendors are “just not comfortable” with an independent review. With that being said. If there are any SDR products that you would like to see reviewed here, leave us a comment below and we will see what we can do. We will let you know in the comment section if we will be able to do an article on the product in the near future.

Thanks for visiting Ham Radio Science  and have a great new year!

    1. Hi Will,
We did look into getting a review sample and the developer did get back to us. We are still discussing the possibility of getting a review sample in the future. Not having hands on with the Peaberry kit, it’s hard to say how it compares to the Softrock.
